Living Under Lockdown - 2.5 hours of construction sounds (Black Screen)
Living at home under lockdown since March 2020 has been difficult. I've been working at home during the day. Since lockdown, many houses around me have been undergoing refurbishment. I decided to record 2.5 hours of the sounds around my house this morning (28 September 2021). This is typical of any day. The sounds generally continue until the evening, every day. Work meetings are difficult due to the intrusion of these sounds into my home. What's missing from this 2.5 hour clip is the hours of dog barking noise that I have to endure daily! The audio was recorded on a Tascam DR-05X audio recorder.
My Bedroom HiFi System's Actual Sound
Here's what my bedroom HiFi system actually sounds like. It was recorded using a Tascam DR-05X audio recorder placed in the bedroom close to where I would be listening from. The system comprises: Source: iFi Zen Blue Bluetooth receiver Amplifier: Rotel RA-314 from the 1970s Speakers: Dynaudio Audience 42 from the 1990s Speaker Cable: Linn K20 I use TIDAL running on my LG V30+ phone connected over Bluetooth LDAC to the iFi Zen Blue receiver.
Noisy Neighbours: 13 Minutes of Dog Barking - Black Screen
Being stuck at home a lot during lockdown is stressful enough. It can be made worse if you have noisy neighbours. Here's a compendium of the kind of dog barking that I have to endure on a daily basis - mostly during waking hours. This audio was recorded over the space of three days in May 2021. This is only a tiny fraction of the barking that happens throughout the day, almost every single day. This impacts my online work meetings and my mental and physical health. I've noticed that I'm struggling to concentrate during my working day. Due to being woken up by the dog barking on most mornings, I tend to feel sleepy during the day. I would guess that I am losing 1 to 2 hours of sleep every day. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone! Happy listening! For the technical side of things, I use a Tascam DR-05X mounted on a tripod and recorded in low-quality 128kbs MP3 format. I've also measured the sound level from my garden using a sound level meter and it has been around 85dB (on 11 May 2021, for example).
Digitising Vinyl Records Using iFi Zen Phono and Tascam DR-05X Audio Recorder
Here's a video showing my setup for digitising my vinyl record collection. I use my 1990s HiFi system for playback (just the record player). The record player is a Thorens TD 160 B MkII fitted with an Ortofon VMS 20E MkII cartridge. The record player is directly connected to an iFi Zen Phono phono stage (set to the lowest sensitivity MM setting). The line output of the iFi Zen Phono is then connected via an 25dB attenuator to a Tascam DR-05X audio recorder, which is set to record at 24-bit 96kHz. The connection between the iFi Zen Phono to the attenuator and from the attenuator to the DR-05X uses Audioquest Evergreen cables (twin-RCA to 3.5mm stereo and 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo. The attenuator is a Fentronix SAA25 25dB Stereo Audio Attenuator purchased on eBay UK. Since the record player is disconnected from the HiFi system's amp, monitoring is carried out via headphones connected to the headphone out of of the DR-05X. The headphones shown in the video are my Beyerdynamic Xelento IEMs. Tidying up of the audio is done in Audacity for macOS and the resulting music is exported in 24-bit 96kHz FLAC format for adding to my music library. Dubai Abra Boat Service - Reverse View
For the cost of just 1 Dhs, you can enjoy the great views whilst crossing from Deira Old Souk Abra Station to Bur Dubai. The journey takes around 5 minutes in total. This is the reverse view (looking back towards Deira). I've reduced the audio volume as it was a very windy day. This video was recorded on an iPhone XS Max.

Fizik Aliante R3 Open Saddle
Here's my new Fizik Aliante R3 Open saddle in a regular width and in the Limited Edition white colour. The measured weight is exactly 235g, which is also the quoted weight. The saddle is beautifully presented in quality packaging and this video shows the unboxing and how it looks on my Blue Prosecco EX-Gravel DI2 carbon gravel bike. The saddle is designed for Bull profile riders according to Fizik's labelling system, where a Bull is someone with low flexibility. On a few very short test rides so far, it has proved to be extremely comfortable with the nose tilted down by about 1-2 degrees. Credit for music: https://www.bensound.com
